Back to Work Blues.

Today has been the hardest day to get back to work after just over a week off. Judging by my colleagues moaning, I wasn’t the only one feeling this way. I have spent a lovely week, sleeping until 11am, watching the kids, spending time with my extended family and playing at housewife (well, I did buy a mop, I just haven’t used it yet). So this morning, I resented getting up knowing I couldn’t just pray and go back to bed again. I wanted to play “house” a bit longer. My husband did try to look serious and sympathetic as he dropped me off, but even he was surprised at me when I piped up with “Oh well, just have to get the day over and done with”, which is not like me, because I loathe to waste even one minute of a day we will not get back again.

As soon as I said this I realised today was Friday, the blessed day Muslim’s set aside for community and prayer and the day my family celebrate with good humour, decent food and small gifts of fruit or chocolates for each other.

So although I have a lot on my plate at the moment, I intend to honour this day and make the most of it through prayer, keeping in touch with family and getting things done (which reminds of those overdue library books again) and also some time for myself (reading of course).

Jummah Mubarak and may this day be filled with blessings for each of you, your supplications answered and your difficulties removed insh’Allah (let’s see if I feel this way on Monday morning…)
