Small Steps in my Culinary Adventures

While hubby is away, I have the perfect excuse for experimenting and trying out new recipes.  I love food, but over recent months have fallen into a rut and found myself cooking the same handful of dishes.  So this week I decided to take some recipes from the internet and try making things which I have never attempted before.

This is cabbage curry (recipe here), I have  never tasted this and loved how it turned out.  I think I'll be making this one for when hubby comes back from South Africa.

This is chicken keema (mince) curry.  This was a hit with the kids.  I left the mince quite chunky as the butcher chopped it by hand from chicken breasts.

This is chicken stir fry noodles.  I loved that I could chuck lots of vegetables into this and they all got eaten (recipe here)

I had a go at making roast chicken chunks with lots of potatoes and vegetables.  It looked better than it tasted.  I tried throwing on lots of spices and herbs which helped.  I think next time I will look for a recipe on-line which gives the chicken a bit more taste.

This is Chicken Alfredo (recipe here), which looked bland, but tasted amazing.

I thought this Chicken Jeera (recipe here) would go better with chappatti, but it was perfect with the white rice.  Next time, I will cook the chicken for less time, as it went quite dark.

To top the week off, my cousin came round with this yakhni pulao (rice cooked in chicken soup) and raita (cucumber, yoghurt and spices) which tasted lovely.

As I am the only adult in the house at the moment and the kids are easily pleased, I have really been enjoying cooking these last few days and plan to try lots of new things insh'Allah.  No today though, today I am going to finish off the various leftovers (isn't that what mum's always end up doing?)

  1. The noodles and yakhni pulao look yum!!!! Got to try out the Alfredo recipe soon!

  2. Everything looks delicious. I'm definitely gonna try out the chicken jeera :)

  3. Nice work sis! Might be trying out some of those dishes :)

  4. I recently got married and I'm in the same boat as you - trying to experiment with different recipes. The chicken jeera (is that the same as Zeera?) looks good!
