Ramadan Journal 2016: Day 8 - 10

Ramadan Journal 2016: Day 8 - Suhoor

For the first few days of Ramadan I started off making suhoor (dawn meal) for me and my husband while my daughter makes something for herself.  He has paratha's for breakfast, his idea of a sustainable Punjabi breakfast (i.e. one of these and you won't be hungry for the next few days).

The last two days he got home from the masjid so late after taraweeh that instead of sleeping, he made us breakfast.  His paratha's are yum and flaky and filling.  I didn't have the heart to tell him toast, milk and dates are enough for me.

Ramadan Journal 2016: Day 9 - White

It's rather strange when you look outside at 9pm and it is still so bright at the moment.  This bright white moon was visible early in the evening and even after maghrib the sky was light.

Ramadan Journal 2016: Day 10 - Prayer

The first asharah, or third, of Ramadan is already over.

The Holy Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) has said: “It (Ramadan) is the month whose beginning is mercy, middle, forgiveness and its end emancipation from the fire” (Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 93).

My husband saw I was struggling a little (okay quite a bit) with the lack of sleep and trying to balance worship with all of my other duties and becoming frustrated.  He encouraged me to be patient saying the month would pass so quickly.  It didn’t seem it would, but it certainly has.

When I look back over the first ten days, I can see the mercy of Allah SWT again and again.  The blessing of the afternoon sunnah nap I take after work (called qaylulah) that helped me to catch up on my sleep, the days when friends and neighbours have dropped off food for iftar, the opportunity to share food with my parents and finally establishing an earlier bedtime for the babies so that I can have my iftar meal in peace .

I pray that during the next ten days, I truly make the most of this opportunity for forgiveness and can convince Allah (SWT) to forgive my sins and mistakes insh'Allah.
